About the event
Shabbat with Friends is organizing a Kindness (Gemilut Hasadim) Initiative called Shir Hesed-Song of Kindness. The purpose of the Shir Hesed is to bring songs through visits of Jewish seniors and isolated individuals. The aim of our visits is to bring joy and comfort to individuals and groups by sharing Jewish and Shabbat folk songs. We plan to visit people both in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas.
The first step of the initiative is forming an informal singing group. We are planning a first rehearsal of volunteers on Sunday, August 4th.
We call on volunteers who can make a time commitments of roughly 4-5 hours a month: 2 hours to learn and rehearse from a playlist of songs. 2-3 hours for prearranged visits to individuals and groups who will enjoy the music we share. We are building on our musical Shabbat gatherings where many of the songs we will sing are also shared. This initiative was inspired by the SWF Passover Caroling program that occurred back in April.
Join us for the first rehearsal of Shir Hesed on Sunday, August 4th from 4-5:30 at a home of SWF’s Hesed Coordinator, Lea Koshkin in NE Albuquerque. We will be joined by guitar/mandolin player, David Martin and Rabbi Dov Gartenberg.
If you would like to participate in SWF’s Shir Hesed initiative, please RSVP. Registrants will be sent Lea's address before the meeting. If you have questions, please contact Rabbi Dov Gartenberg HERE. Please register by August 2nd. If you are interested in participating, but cannot attend, please indicate on the RSVP form.
