About the event

Shera Farkas opens her home for families and children to gather for Shabbat. Shera feasts are famous for their great food and amazing spreads. As a retired teacher she knows how to create a fun environment for children, parents, and grandparents.  The evening will include singing, games, and a chance to relax together after the work week.

About Shabbat with Friends Gatherings

Shabbat with Friends (SWF) gatherings embody the Jewish tradition of making the Sabbath a delight, in Hebrew, ‘Oneg Shabbat’. Hosted in homes and special venues in Santa Fe and ABQ, Shabbat with Friends gatherings are always hosted or cohosted by households. These gatherings may feature music and song, conversation, Torah study, and even group play.  Our gatherings are built on Jewish tradition that values the shared table as much as the synagogue pew.

Shabbat with Friends Gatherings are open to people of all backgrounds and people of all ages. These gatherings serve as a spiritual and culturally enriching supplement for those connected to Jewish communal life as well as a positive Jewish experience for those who have not found a home in the organized Jewish community. We build our community on Jewish traditions of hospitality (hachnasat orchim) which values relationships, welcoming new faces, and sharing joy.  Join us for a Shabbat with Friends gathering to reconnect to the deep well of Sabbath joy, rest, and community.

About This Shabbat Gathering

This SWF gathering is family-friendly, involving and engaging children in the Shabbat rituals and activities. The food is kid-friendly, the songs come from camp, and the tempo is faster and more joyful. A spellbinding story is shared. Parents can relax and children can play.  Our family-friendly Shabbat gatherings are designed to be more like summer camp than a synagogue service, informal in approach, and set up to encourage connecting with others and building friendships.
